County says no new oiled roads

    COUNTY – Shelby County has adopted a policy change that calls for no new oiled or seal coat (bituminous) sections of road in the county after January 1, 2019.    Affected most by the policy change will be those homeowners on gravel roads who haven’t done so yet, and may want to oil a section of road in front of their home to cut down on dust.  They won’t be able to do so after January 1.    Homeowners who currently have oil in front of the

Weekend Uber driver Josh Hansen, 43, of Harlan, was punched in the head by a fare shortly after picking the man up about 2:30 a.m. Sunday near 45th and Burdette Streets. When the man demanded Hansen’s wallet, the driver cooperated but then followed him until the man was arrested.

COLOR RUN

HARLAN -- A successful Color Run for the Cure was held Saturday, June 2 at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.  It’s the fifth year that Kara Rueschenberg and Jacob Bartley have organized the Color Run, and during those five years there have been more than 800 participants and more than $12,000 has been raised and donated to the American Cancer Society.

MMC okays budgets; physician contract hike

    HARLAN -- The operating and capital budgets for the 2018-2019 fiscal year at Myrtue Medical Center have been approved by MMC’s Board of Trustees. MMC Chief Financial Officer Kristy Hansen provided an outline of both budgets at the recent board meeting.Operating budget review    Myrtue Medical is budgeting net operating revenue to grow 5.3 percent from an anticipated $40.8 million in 2018 to $43 million in 2019.

Trails group receives $100,000 grant; closer to goal

    REGIONAL -- The Shelby County Trails Board's application for the Wellmark Foundation's Large Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) $100,000 Grant has been approved.    These funds will be used along with other funds to build a Ballpark to Ballpark trail along Highway 191 in western Shelby County.
