  Christian Highland Nichols, son of Jason and Shari (Bruck) Nichols, was born on August 12, 2015 in Clinton, Iowa. He was born with cerebral palsy caused by a rare x-linked genetic disorder called Allan-Herndon-Dudley Syndrome(AHDS)-MCT8. From day one, not only was he winning over the hearts of his parents, but everyone he came across.  He loved his food and enjoyed almost everything he tried.

Thomas Walter Potts, son of Kenneth and Naomi “Joanne” (Lykke) Potts, was born February 6, 1950, in Harlan, Iowa. He grew up on the farm west of Elk Horn and graduated with the Elk Horn-Kimballton High School class of 1968. He continued his education at Boone Junior College for two years. Tom then worked in bridge construction as a crane and heavy equipment operator for several years.

Rex Hugo Ploen (1923-2022) 99,of Denver, CO passed away on October13,2022. He was born in Shelby,Iowa to Hugo and Emma Ploen.Rex served in the U.S. MarineCorps as an aviator during World WarII from 1942-1946 flying a Hellcat offthe US Block Island and left serviceas a Captain.After serving Rex returned to Iowawhere he attended the Universityof Iowa from 1946-1950.

Philip Alvin Burmeister was born November 14th, 1943, in Harlan, Iowa to Harry and Mena Burmeister. Phil was the youngest of seven children in a family that consisted of twins, a single, triplets, and then Phil. He attended all 12 years of school and graduated from Harlan in 1962.

 Nancy Kay (Evans) Collins was born on October 14, 1949; she was the fourth of six children born to John and Eunice (Swanson) Evans.  Nancy had five brothers: John, Frank, Jerry, Richard and Steven.  Nancy was baptized and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church in Shelby, Iowa.  She attended and graduated from Shelby-Tennant Community School with the Class of 1968.  Nancy married Ken Collins on May 9, 1970 at the United Lutheran Church in She

Marianne Jane (Savereide) Pauley was born on January 10, 1929 in Harlan, IA to Arthur H. and Luella S. (Comstock) Savereide. She was baptized at United Methodist Church in Harlan. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1947. Marianne was united in marriage to Richard W. Pauley on February 15, 1948 and shared 74 years of marriage. Three children were born to this union:  David, Joni, and Jill.

 Kaleen Cecelia Johnston was born on August 18, 1954 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ray and Janice Stessman. She was a 1972 graduate of the Harlan Community High School. She then attended the Creighton University School of Nursing, graduating in 1976 and received her Registered Nurse license. She was united in marriage to Paul S. Johnston at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa, on June 5, 1976.

Chuck Lyon, son of Rose and William Lyon was born on December 4, 1940 in Harlan, Iowa. After graduating high school, he enlisted to the Army National Guard for 5 years until he was honorably discharged. He was married and had two sons, Chad and Scott.Chuck was a talented construction supervisor, building roads and friendships his entire career.

Barbara Joan Brundige, age 87, of Irwin, IA passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022. She was born December 16, 1934 to Thomas and Florence (Dahlmeier) Knowlton. Private family services are being planned.Barb is preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald “Sprout” Brundige; and Kaoly Brundige (daughter-in-law).

Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Henkelman, daughter of Arnold and Annabell Marie (Goeres) Schneider, was born October 2, 1931 in Defiance, Iowa.  She attended and graduated from St. Paul’s School in Defiance.Betty was united in marriage to John Feser on February 25, 1952 at St.

William “Bill” Francis Andersen was born on Tuesday, May 30, 1939, in Portsmouth, Iowa to parents William H. and Cecelia (Zimmerman) Andersen.

Marilyn Pauline Holdren, the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Findlay) Peterson, was born August 9, 1927 in Rural Harlan, Iowa. She was raised on her family’s farm and attended the Congregational Church  in Harlan. Marilyn attended country school in Shelby County, Iowa and graduated from Harlan High School in Harlan, Iowa.

Martha Ann Gross, the daughter of John Leo and Agnes Mary (Coppersmith) Stoll, was born on the family farm near Clyde, Missouri, on July 29, 1937, the tenth of 13 children. She received the sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Eucharist, Confirmation, and Matrimony at Immaculate Conception Basilica in Conception, Missouri.

Jose Leal was born to Petra and Jose Leal Sr. on July 2, 1939 in Denver Colorado. As a kid, Jose attended school at Bryant Webster Elementary and later graduated from North High School in Denver, Colorado. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Ghost Church in Denver, Colorado.Jose enlisted in the Army in 1956 and trained as a combat engineer in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. However, he took a drastic career change and became a paratrooper.
