Brian “Butch” Schmitz

Harlan - Brian Anthony Schmitz was born on February 13th, 1973 in Harlan, Iowa to Marvin and Joan (Petsche) Schmitz. He attended grade school and high school at Harlan Community Schools graduating in 1991. Brian grew up on an acreage outside of Harlan with his mom, dad, two brothers and two sisters.

Franklin Nelsen

Audubon - Franklin Wilson Nelsen was born in Audubon, IA, on October 2, 1948, to Emmert and Margaret (Herron) Nelsen. He was the baby of 8 children, and according to most, his momma’s favorite. He grew up mostly in Audubon, with a brief stint in Colorado Springs. Upon leaving Colorado Springs, he moved back to Audubon and graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1967.

Joseph Stein

HARLAN - Joseph Micheal Stein, son of Micheal Ambrose and Isabelle Mary (Foxhoven) Stein, was born on January 13, 1942, on the family farm in rural Portsmouth, Iowa. He attended country school, along with his 8 siblings, and graduated from Harlan High School in 1959. He was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.Joe left the farm, after the death of his father, and moved to Harlan, Iowa, with his mother and siblings.

Patrick Monahan

Harlan - Patrick Francis Monahan was born on August 5, 1946, the son of Charles and Marie (Miller) Monahan, near Panama, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Panama. Patrick received his education at a country school and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1964.

Geraldine Swisher

Harlan - Geraldine “Geri” Swisher was born to Marion and Irene (Harding) Morehead on September 29, 1927 in Akron, Iowa. She was baptized at the First Covenant Church on April 9, 1944. She attended school until the ninth grade. After her schooling, she worked by taking babysitting jobs and cleaning houses for extended family and neighbors.

Kathryn Kristine Kuper

Kathryn Kristine Kuper died peacefully on October 30, 2024, at Havenwood of Richfield in Richfield, MN. Kathryn was born November 11, 1935, in Harlan, Iowa, to Gordon and Agnes Sorenson. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1954.Kathryn loved children, especially babies, so being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother was one of the special joys of her life.

Darlene Marie Wilwerding

Westphalia - Darlene Marie Wilwerding, daughter of Clement (Clem) and Angela (Waltz) Coenen was born on February 2, 1938, on her parent’s farm near Westphalia, Iowa.  She attended all twelve years of school at St. Boniface in Westphalia.  After graduation, she worked at the Co-op in Westphalia for six years and time permitting part time as a grocery clerk. Darlene was united in marriage to Ivo Wilwerding on May 21, 1960, at St.

Ralph Bruck

Harlan - Ralph Walter Bruck was born on February 28, 1952 to Anthony “Tony”and Mary (Bissen) Bruck on their farm near Earling, Iowa. Ralph was the ninth of Tony and Mary’s ten children. Five boys and five girls, an even split. Ralph attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling and graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1971.

 Dave Theodore Stessman born to Caroline and Fred Stessman on April 21, 1928 in Panama, Iowa.  He was the oldest of ten children in his family. He grew up on a farm east of Panama helping with farm chores, driving tractors and milking cows.Dave started his own business in Panama called Dave’s Garage.

William “Bill” Kohnekamp, Sr., age 79, of Elk Horn, Iowa (formerly of Battle Creek, Iowa) passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, at the Salem Lutheran Homes of Elk Horn, Iowa.Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard C. Merrill will officiate.

Judith Anne “Judy” Heimerman, 82

Judith Anne “Judy” Heimerman, the oldest daughter of Charles and Marjorie “Jean” (Moats) Gilmore, was born on October 7, 1941, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Judy graduated from Mondamin (Iowa) High School in 1960, and attended Barnes School of Beauty Culture in Council Bluffs, graduating on July 22, 1961. She worked in Lake City, IA, and Missouri Valley, IA, for several years.   On April 1, 1967, Judy married Robert John Heimerman in Onawa, IA.
