Cyclones compete at Hawkeye-10 Championships

With the regular season winding down and the state qualifying meet on the horizon, the HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team earned a fifth place finish with 57.33 points among 11 teams at the Hawkeye-10 Championships in Shenandoah.

Wednesday the IKM-Manning Wolves girls track and field team competed at the Western Iowa Championships with the girls taking 31 points, finishing ninth, but battled some sickness and injury along the way.

Kearney and Argueta lead Cyclones to win

After a tough 6-0 loss to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Monday night on the road, the HCHS Cyclones returned home to Merrill Field to take on the Carroll Tigers and less than 10 minutes into the game, Senior Cyclone Elmer Argueta scored his first goal of the night, which would be all the Cyclones would need en route to a 4-0 victory.

Cyclones run at Bruce Henderson Invitational

Monday at Atlantic High School, the HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team finished in fifth place with 61 points, 78 points behind Glenwood, who won the event with 139 points.
“Collectively, this was our best meet of the season, and we are so happy with the girls efforts,” said Cyclone Head Coach Jenny Hamilton.

Spartans finish third at RVC Championships

Monday at the Woodbine Athletic Complex, the Exira-EHK Spartans boys track and field team competed at the Rolling Valley Conference Championships taking home a third place finish with 72 points, just five behind Coon Rapids-Bayard and three ahead of CAM.

Cyclones finish 8th at Wildcat Relays

In their final tune-up before the Drake Relays, the HCHS Cyclones boys track and field team finished eighth at the Wildcat Relays at Carlisle High School with 76 points, finishing 64 points behind Indianola, who won the event with 140 points.

Cyclones take home multiple PRs at Lady Red Relays

Last Tuesday, the HCHS Cyclones competed in the Lady Red Relays, taking home multiple personal records.
“We had several PRs, including Carleigh [Goshorn] in the 100, Taylor [Bieker] in the 800, and Brylee [Schechinger], Allie [Anderson], and Lauren [Wingert] in the 1500.”

Plans for Elk Horn’s annual Tivoli Fest are underway

ELK HORN — Elk Horn’s 44th Annual Tivoli Fest will be held Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25. Organizers said there will be plenty of activities for “A Celebration of Danish Roots”.A new website, TivoliFest.com will provide up-to-date schedule information. Shaun Sayres, Manager of the Danish Windmill, said the website will feature a much more comprehensive overview of what Tivoli will offer this year.

First year of 28E agreement with City of Harlan and Shelby County is a success

SHELBY COUNTY — April 15 marked one year since the 28E Law Enforcement agreement between the City of Harlan and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department went into effect. Due to ongoing staff shortages with the Harlan Police Department, the agreement disbanded HPD, leaving law enforcement coverage of the city solely under the Sheriff’s Department. Shelby County Sheriff Neil Gross feels the transition went very smoothly.

Wolves & Spartans compete at Bob Clark Relays

Tuesday night, the IKM-Manning Wolves girls track and field team finished strong at the Bob Clark Relays taking fourth place with 89 points, finishing 25 points behind the winner Tri-Center.
