Four elected to ISU Extension County Council

    COUNTY -- Four Shelby County residents were elected to the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Shelby County Council in the Nov. 8 general election. They are: Kathy Fara, Irwin; Julie Klein, Harlan; Michele Monson, Irwin; and Sheila Rihner, Shelby.    Current members of the county extension council who were re-elected to four-year terms are Klein & Monson.

Outgoing auditor requesting audit

    COUNTY – Shelby County Auditor Marsha Carter is calling for a mid-year audit of her office to be completed as she leaves the position January 1.    Carter told the Shelby County Board of Supervisors last week that it’s an important step to make sure all is taken care of financially as she leaves.  Incoming auditor Mark Maxwell will take over the office January 1 after defeating incumbent Carter in the general election November 8.

Sears signs letter of intent to Western Illinois

State baseball champs offer helping hand at Miracle Field

 DES MOINES -- Harlan Community’s winning tradition on the baseball diamond has been well-documented, highlighted by 16 state tournament appearances, three state titles - most recently this past August - and three state runner-up finishes since 2008. But across the street from Principal Park, where the Cyclones have been playing state tourney games since 2005, another tradition is emerging at the Kiwanis Miracle League.

Doris Ploen, 89

    SHELBY -- Doris Marie Ploen, 89, Shelby, died November 26 at Methodist Hospital.    Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca with burial in the Minden Cemetery at Minden.  Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
