    ELK HORN -- J.     WALNUT -- Charles Edward Wyatt, 62, Walnut, died December 5 at his home.    Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m.

Eugene Hahn, 76

    MANILLA -- Eugene J. “Gene” Hahn, 76, Manilla, died Sunday, Dec. 4 in Denison.    Services will be held Friday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla with burial at 2 p.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Westphalia.  Friends may call Friday from 9-11 a.m.

Larry Miller, 71

    ATLANTIC -- Larry Miller, 71, Atlantic, died December 3 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center.    Services were held Thursday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m.

Deadline nears for adoption requests

Blue Out Fundraiser for Cancer Friday

    HARLAN -- The annual Harlan Community Blue Out for men’s cancer will take place on Friday, Dec. 9 at the HCHS vs. Denison-Schleswig boys and girls basketball games.    The theme for this year’s Blue Out is I Can Fight Cancer.    There will be a silent auction as well as a bake sale at the event.  A Blue Out Bucket Run also will be held where those at the games can donate to the cause with any extra cash they may have.

Over the next three years -- Supervisors propose budget reduction plan

    COUNTY – Shelby County is implementing a three-year budget reduction plan as a proactive measure due to expected losses in tax revenues due to everything from a struggling ag economy to decreasing population.    The county’s board of supervisors will put the plan in motion as it develops the budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year.  Hopes are that the cost savings measures will help when revenues grow stagnant or drop.    Supervisors Roger Schm

    MANILLA -- Services are pending for Eugene Hahn, 76, Manilla, at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan.    Hahn died Sunday, Dec. 3 in Denison.  He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Manilla.

Grace Marshall, newborn
