Services will be held Friday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia with burial in the St. Boniface Cemetery at Westphalia. A rosary was held Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at the St. Boniface Parish Hall in Westphalia. Visitation was from 4-9 p.m.
CARROLL -- Delores “Laurie” Staley, 82, Carroll, died Monday, May 8 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Services will be held Friday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends were asked to call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 where there was a rosary held at 5 p.m.
HARLAN -- A new restaurant will be the anchor of a new business development along Highway 59 south of the Settle Inn in Harlan. The Harlan City Council has approved the sale of an approximately two-acre parcel of re-platted land along the highway in the Harlan Plaza Subdivision. COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Fourteen Harlan Community High School students participated in Google’s 5th Annual Anti-Gravity Games competition April 29, sweeping the competition and taking the grand prize and 1st runner-up for the second year in a row at Kanesville Arena on the Iowa Western Community College campus. This year the Anti-Gravity Games brought 20 area high school teams together for a day of discovery and excitement.
AVOCA -- AHSTW hosted commencement exercises for its graduates this past weekend, with ceremonies held at the AHSTW High School gymnasium starting at 1 p.m.
