Coach Wagner surpasses 400 wins

 GRISWOLD (Jan. 5) -- IKM-Manning boys basketball coach Keith Wagner earned career win number 400 last Friday night as the Wolves won 53-25 at Griswold. Senior Jared Johnson led IKM-M with 22 points while junior Alex Lingle had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Mary O’Bryan, 79

    HARLAN -- Mary Alice O’Bryan, 79, Harlan, died January 15 at Elm Crest Assisted Living.    Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A wake service will be held Friday, Jan. 19 at 6:45 p.m. at the church.  Family will greet friends Friday from 5-7 p.m.

Keary Hogue, 67

    HARLAN -- Keary B. Hogue, 67, Harlan, died Saturday, Jan. 13 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.    Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic with burial with military graveside rites at the Harlan Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22.  Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

James Juhl, 88

    SHELBY -- James Emery Juhl, 88, Shelby, died January 13 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.    Services were held Thursday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m.

Charlotte Holzer, 81

    WESTPHALIA -- Charlotte Ann Holzer, 81, Westphalia, died January 14 at Manilla Manor.    Services will be held Friday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia with burial in the St. Boniface Cemetery at Westphalia.  A rosary was held Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Family greeted friends Thursday from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Harlan city committees get approval

HARLAN -- Harlan city council members and other city officials have been named to committees for the 2018 calendar year, as approved by the council in late December.    Following is a list of the city committees and those persons serving on the committees: 

HMU changes mind on bid

HARLAN -- After reviewing in detail the bids received for new heating and AC units for the Exchange Street substation, the Harlan Municipal Utility board rescinded their approval to Camblin Plb-Htg and awarded the contract to Petsche Mechanical.    The original Camblin bid did not include the electrical work for the units, and once added, the Petsche bid was lower.    In other somewhat awkward action and discussion, the Board approved the bid
