Pair of road wins lift HCHS girls over .500 mark

 GLENWOOD -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team moved above the .500 mark for the first time this season over the weekend (January 12-13), sweeping a pair of road games at Clarinda and Glenwood. HCHS pulled away in the second half Friday night to rout the Cardinals 77-37 in conference play, then used a fourth-quarter rally to beat the Rams 52-47 in a non-conference matchup Saturday. The Cyclone girls are now 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the

IKM-M girls hold off Lady Vikes

 MANNING (Jan. 12) -- The IKM-Manning girls basketball team held off AHSTW 46-36 Friday night in a Western Iowa Conference game featuring 44 total fouls and 59 free throw attempts. The Wolves’ sixth straight victory improved their record to 9-3 overall and 8-2 in the WIC.

 ELK HORN -- The eighth-ranked (1A) Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls basketball team improved to 12-1 over the weekend with a pair of lopsided victories, beating Glidden-Ralston 67-39 on Friday night and winning 57-15 at Essex in non-conference action Saturday.

HCHS wrestlers win a pair, back over .500

 COUNCIL BLUFFS (Jan. 9) -- The Harlan Community wrestlers picked up a pair of non-conference dual wins at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln on Tuesday, beating the host Lynx 42-35 and defeating Underwood 51-16 to improve to 7-6 on the season. HCHS finished 8-3 with six pins in contested matches vs. A.L. and never trailed, but led just 30-29 with three weight classes remaining.

Lady Vikes fall to Treynor, 68-25

 AVOCA (Jan. 9) -- The AHSTW girls fell behind 45-12 at halftime and lost to 2nd-ranked Treynor 68-25 in Western Iowa Conference action Tuesday night. Claire Harris led AHSTW with seven points, followed by Claire Denning and Kinsey Scheffler with five apiece. The Lady Vikes are now 4-6 overall.
