James Kock, 68

    HANCOCK -- James Marcus Kock, 68, Hancock, died December 5, 2020 at his home.    Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock.    Kock is survived by his wife, Merrillee (Freeland) Kock of Hancock; daughters Rashelle (Caleb) Wohlers of Beebeetown and Alicia (Brendon) Shearer of Allyn, WA; and four grandchildren.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca is in charge of arrangements.

Derald Graybill, 75

    SHELBY -- Derald Leon Graybill, 75, Shelby, died July 1 at his home.    Services will be held Tuesday, July 6 at 1 p.m. at the Shelby Methodist Church with burial in the Shelby Cemetery.  Family will greet friends Tuesday from noon-1 p.m.

Engler pitches Atlantic past Cyclones, 4-1

Reisz shuts out Atlantic in 7-0 HCHS win

 ATLANTIC (June 24) -- Harlan Community broke open a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the fifth Thursday night and got a six-inning shutout from Franz Reisz to beat Atlantic 7-0 and sweep the baseball season series. The game was called by rain/lightning after just two pitches were thrown in the top of the seventh. Reisz (1-3) pitched his best game of the year for the Cyclones, allowing just three hits and one walk, hitting two batters

Harlan Trap Team attends State Meet competition

 CEDAR FALLS -- Several athletes from the Harlan Trap team participated in the State Meet located in Cedar Falls. The competition started Tuesday, June 8, and concluded on Sunday, June 13. There were a total of 4,000 athletes competing over the course of the week. Harlan had eight athletes competing on Tuesday in the Intermediate (Middle School) competition and 16 athletes competing on Saturday in the Varsity (High School) competition.

Residents urged to conserve water after booster station fire
