Cyclones earn first win on Schwieso’s career night

In the fourth quarter with the Cyclones leading by 17 points, Junior Cyclone Aubrey Schwieso was fouled, sending her to the line where she made both free throw attempts scoring her 26th and 27th points on the night en route to a dominant 58-40 Cyclone victory over the Treynor Cardinals.

Vikings drop season opener on road in overtime

In overtime with the Woodbine Tigers leading 48-47, Senior Tiger Nicole Hoefer was fouled, sending her to the free throw line where she made one of two shots putting her team up by two, ultimately sealing the 49-47 victory and handing the Vikings a loss to start the season.

With a new head coach in Tony Santisteban leading the way, the Exira-EHK boys basketball team is hoping to build off a successful 2022 campaign finishing 19-15 and making it all the way to the 1A-8 Semifinal Game losing 71-52 to the West Harrison Hawkeyes.

Vikings open season at home against Bulldogs

After a 19-3 season ended in heartbreak for the AHSTW Vikings, where they made an appearance in the Regional Final match losing 47-36 to Des Moines Christian, they are back to work practicing with a lot of new faces.
“We are very excited,” said Viking Head Coach G.G. Harris. “There is a different dynamic this year, and there will be a lot of new faces, learning and having new roles. We welcome the challenge and opportunity.”

Cyclones look to build on Regional Final run

After a 17-6 finish in their 2022 campaign that ended with an appearance in the Regional Final Game, the HCHS boys basketball team is back to practice and will have to overcome a challenging non-conference schedule to have a successful season.

Cyclones begin first season under Bendorf

The HCHS boys wrestling team is back in action now under new coach Adam Bendorf, replacing John Murtaugh, who retired at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Practices are underway, preparing for a new season set to begin Dec. 2 with a tournament consisting of nine schools hosted by HCHS.

Open house will celebrate Addie Maxwell’s 100th birthday

 HARLAN ­— Addie Maxwell will celebrate her 100th birthday November 17. An open house will be held November 18 from 2 -4 in the McKee Room of the Elm Crest Retirement Community. Greetings may be sent to her at 2104 12th St., Room 251, Harlan, IA 51537. Addie was born in 1923 to Chris and Olga Knudsen of Jacksonville. She married Art Maxwell November 19, 1943.

Iowa Utilities Board hearing for pipeline permit concludes

 STATEWIDE — The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) evidentiary hearing for Summit Carbon Solutions’ petition for a hazardous liquid pipeline resumed last Tuesday and concluded the next day after a month-long recess due to scheduling conflicts with the venue wherethe hearing was held. The hearing, which began at the Cardiff Event Center in Fort Dodge Aug.
