IRWIN -- George Henry Steenhusen, 85, Irwin, died June 24 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Services will be held Friday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at Church of Christ in Irwin with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin.  A prayer service was held Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Thursday from 3-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

Genevieve was born on January 16, 1924 to William and Catherine (Schechinger) Gaul in Earling. On February 10, 1948, Vernon and Genevieve united in marriage.
On May 30, 2019, Gen passed away at the age of 95. A 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Dan Gehler on Monday, June 3, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance. Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Karla Jean Kirby Pauley was born in Council Bluffs on March 15, 1933. She was the third and only surviving child of Edgar Franklin Kirby and Lucy Irene May Kirby. In 1955, Karla met Kevin Joseph Pauley who had returned home to Portsmouth after serving two years in Korea. They married on May 26, 1956, thoroughly pleased to now be sharing the same initials.

Joanne Mae Page Hanson was born December 31, 1941 to Edward Page and Gladys Metcalf at Choate Memorial Hospital in Woburn, MA. She spent her life in Massachusetts and then moved to Albuquerque, NM.

    HARLAN -- Jody A. Wilson, 48, Harlan, died Saturday, June 22 in Harlan.    Private family services will be held at a later date.    Survivors include sons Josey Wilson of Omaha, NE and Daniel (Mikayla) Wilson of Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren; other relatives and friends.    Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    HARLAN -- Forrest Bruce Johnson, 92, Harlan, died June 21 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Services will be held Tuesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Visitation was Monday, June 24 from 5-7 p.m.

    WALNUT -- James “Aug” Sampson, 74, Walnut, died June 20 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.    Family greeted friends Sunday, June 23 from 5-7 p.m.

Robert Francis Sullivan, was born on May 16, 1923, as the second son of Leo P. and Elizabeth (Hawn) Sullivan. Bob grew up on a farm near Dunlap, graduating high school in 1940 from St. Joseph School. Bob married Theresa Marie Dieter October 11, 1945, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison.  Together they raised a family of 16 children while farming and living off the land in and around Dunlap, Dow City, Denison, and Earling.

ELK HORN – Richard Mardesen, son of Vernon and Grace Mardesen, was born December 24, 1946, in Atlantic. He grew up in Elk Horn and graduated from Elk Horn-Kimballton High School in 1965.Even though Richard experienced a period of declining health, he passed away rather unexpectedly on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. He was 72 years, five months and 21 days of age.

    AVOCA -- James Sampson, 74, Avoca, died Thursday, June 20 at the Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.    Services are pending at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca.

    EARLING -- Mary Ellen Nordby, 70, Earling, died June 18 at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home.    Services will be held Saturday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Norman “Ed” Hendley, 65, Harlan, died Friday, June 14.    Ed was very proud of his service with the US Naval Submarine Force from 1975 - 1987, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7).

    HARLAN -- Linda Carole Jacobsen, 67, Harlan, died June 15 at Methodist Hospital.    Services were held Thursday, June 20 at 6 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Thursday from 4-6 p.m.

Kenneth Boell, 76, Manilla was born Feb. 3, 1943 the son of Paul and Helen (Baumhover) Boell. He grew up near Manilla.
Kenny died at Amelia Place in Council Bluffs on June 13, 2019 at the age of 76 years, four months and 10 days.

Gaul, 94, Harlan, died June 15 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Services will be held Wednesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.  A wake service will be held Tuesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation is Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
