ELK HORN -- Stephen James Peterson, 71, Elk Horn, died October 23 at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.    A private graveside service and burial of ashes was held at the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.    Peterson is survived by his mother, Bev Larsen of Elk Horn, Iowa; four sisters, Christine Jensen of Boise, Idaho, Rachel (Randy) Birks of Irwin, Iowa, Linda (Roger) Jensen of Atlantic, Iowa, and Marcia (Terry) Nelson of Kimballton, Iowa; n

 WINTERSET (Oct. 20) -- The Harlan Community girls cross country team will make its fourth straight state meet appearance following last Wednesday’s third-place performance at the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet held at Lakeview Country Club. The Cyclone girls scored a 70 to place third behind Dallas Center-Grimes (56) and North Polk (65).

    HARLAN -- Richard Harry Burmeister, 84, Harlan, died Tuesday, Oct. 19 in Harlan.    A memorial visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 4 from 3-8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m.

    MANILLA -- Francis Dale Snyder, 73, Manilla, died Thursday, Sept. 9 at Pinnacle Specialty Care Center in Cedar Falls.    Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m.
