Reep graduates from U.S. Marine Corps Boot Camp

 HARLAN — Private Luke Reep, 20, of Harlan, graduated from the United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego on February 3, 2023. Private Reep successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego as one of 40 recruits in Training Platoon 2107. While in recruit training, Private Reep achieved rifle expert.

Card shower will honor Darlene Hess’s 80th birthday

Open house planned for Barton’s 90th birthday

 HARLAN — Margie Barton will celebrate her 90th birthday March 19. Her family is hosting an open house Saturday, March 25 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Altamont Baptist Church, 516 Quince Rd., Harlan. Family and friends are invited to join the celebration. Margie was married to the late Bob Barton.

McMahon will turn 90 March 4

Bill and Bev Jensen observe golden anniversary

 HARLAN -- Bill and Bev (Majerus) Jensen of Harlan celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 30. The Jensens wed June 30, 1972 at First Baptist Church in Harlan. The couple owned B&B Tire and Oil until they retired in 2008. Bill is a part-time driver for HCHS.

Rasmussens will celebrate 50th anniversary

 DEFIANCE -- Rick and Paulette (Ahrenholtz) Rasmussen of Defiance will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary July 1. The couple married July 1, 1972 at Defiance United Methodist Church. Rick is a retired farmer and Shelby County Farmers Mutual Insurance manager.

Lions Club hopes plates are gifts that keep on giving

Harlan Lions Club is again sponsoring a May Day/Mother’s Day giving plate project. Club members are hand painting ceramic plates with a design and the words, “The Giving Plate” and “Enjoy-Refill- Pass” on them. Each plate will feature a clear bag of six home baked chocolate chip cookies and a bag of six home baked sugar cookies on each plate. The plate and cookies will be wrapped in a clear cellophane bag tied with a bow.

Harlan Library Used Book Sale under way

    HARLAN -- The Harlan Community Library is having its annual used book sale August 9-September 4 during regular business hours.  All proceeds from the sale go to fund the library’s various children and adult programs.

MMC Auxiliary Bazaar set for September 9

    HARLAN -- “City Shopping in a Small Town” is the theme for this year’s Myrtue Medical Center Auxiliary Fall Bazaar and Luncheon.  The event is planned for Thursday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Veteran’s Auditorium in Harlan.      The public may purchase raffle and luncheon tickets Monday through Friday between 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
