The HCHS Cyclones girls golf team hopes to accomplish big things this season with a small roster.
“Some of them are brand new to golf,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “It’ll be a steep learning curve. You got to get out there and swing to have any improvement. We’ll battle a little bit here in March where it’s Iowa weather. It could be 70 degrees at 9 a.m. and then all of a sudden there’s a blizzard at 4 p.m.”

The HCHS Cyclones boys golf team has been taking advantage of the warmer weather, practicing at the Harlan Golf & Country Club preparing for the upcoming season.
“The weather is breaking and getting a little nicer,” said Cyclone Head Coach Chad Swanson. “We’re definitely itching to get going for sure. The courses are starting to green up a little bit.”
Swanson said the team has been getting some holes in.

The HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team competed at the Central College Indoor putting up some strong performances.

The HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team is back on the pitch to prepare for the upcoming season.
“I can’t wait to start the season, and see what this group of girls can do together,” said Junior Emercyn Reischl.
Last year, the team finished 10-8, losing 2-0 in Regional Play. After losing four seniors, Boysen will be looking to other girls for leadership.

As she prepares for her final track season as a Cyclone, HCHS Senior Brylee Schechinger is looking forward to her future. She recently committed to Simpson College.

The HCHS Cyclones tennis team is returning from a season where they boys finished 0-21 and the girls finished 5-19. Nevertheless, the team is excited to get back on the court and begin the season.
“I’m so excited to get the season going,” said Senior Emily Lee. “I have a feeling it’s going to be a good season.”

With just 17 athletes, the HCHS girls track and field team managed to put up some strong numbers in their first meet of the season.
“We had a great first meet of the season,” said Cyclone Head Coach Jenny Hamilton. “For this meet, you have to qualify based on official marks from last year.”

The Harlan trap shooting team is ready for the new season to begin.
“We’re all happy and excited to be back,” said Head Coach Jason Paulsen. “We have a lot of new kids, and a lot of young kids this year. Last year, we had around five rookies and this year we have a dozen. With the new kids, there’s usually a lot of excitement to get started and try it.”

HCHS Cyclones Aubrey Schwieso, Grace Albertsen, Molly Swensen, and Kenzley Bruck were all named to the Hawkeye Ten All Conference list. Schwieso and Albertsen made first team, Swensen got second team, and Bruck received honorable mention.
“It was pretty surprising to me I didn’t really play much varsity my first three years,” Albertsen said. “Then I got first team all conference my senior year. It was pretty cool.”

The IKM-Manning Wolves boys track and field team is back at practice preparing for a new track and field season.

HCHS Senior Weston Reisz has committed to continue his education and baseball career at Doane University in Crete, NE.
“It’s a great feeling,” Reisz said. “It’s been a lifelong dream, and I just can’t wait to get started.”
He said he was impressed with Coach Josh Oltman and his staff had to offer.
“It’s a program I wanted to be a part of,” he said.
Reisz credited his HCHS coaches, Heath Stein and Dillon Sears.

AHSTW’s Bella Lamp and Clara Pace, along with IKM-Manning’s Anna Stangl, Keagan Eischeid, and Taylor Beckendorf took home basketball awards for their efforts this season.
Stangl won first team, Lamp and Eischeid made second team, and Beckendorf and Pace took home honorable mention.

HCHS Senior Grace Albertsen will continue her education and basketball career at Iowa Western.
“It’s pretty cool,” Albertsen said. “If you had asked freshman me if I was going to go play basketball in college, I probably would’ve laughed and said no. Looking back, I’m glad I decided to and I’m excited for the next three years.”
Albertsen said Iowa Western made her feel at home.

The AHSTW Lady Vikings track and field team are back in action , practicing for the upcoming season set to begin in a few weeks.
“As a group, I think we are all very ready for this season,” said Viking Head Coach Traye Pelzer. “We have a lot of goals for improvement and are excited to get started.”
Pelzer and his assistant coach, Kinsey Scheffler, have been highlighting what will be key to performing their best on race day.

The AHSTW Vikings boys track and field team is preparing for another season, and despite the small roster, Head Coach Jackson Renberg is excited to have the season start.
“The group we have is about 15 kids in total, but they have all been working hard and gradually progressing so far this season,” Renberg said.
Renberg is expecting leadership from returning team members, including Jett Peterson and Luke Sternberg.
