    HARLAN -- Gordon B. Ritter, 77, Harlan, died July 6 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Tuesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A wake service was held Monday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Monday from 5-7 p.m.

James Goeser, 76

    HARLAN -- James Goeser, Harlan, died July 3 at Hansen House Memory Care Assisted Living.    Services will be held Friday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A wake service was held Thursday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Thursday from 4-8 p.m.

Herbert Wood, 69

    WALNUT -- Herbert “Herb” Lee Wood, 69, Walnut, died July 2 at Mercy Hospital.    Graveside services will be held Friday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at the Otho Cemetery in Webster County.  Visitation was held Thursday, July 6 from 4-8 p.m.

DES MOINES – Consumer Protection Division representatives will be in Harlan and Atlantic next week to provide “mobile office” access for Iowans with consumer-related questions or complaints, Attorney General Tom Miller announced.
Division representatives will be on hand to provide information, answer questions, and assist with consumer protection matters, including complaints from consumers.

HCHS beats Atlantic by the rule behind Sears’ no-hitter

 HARLAN -- Brett Sears pitched his second no-hitter of the year and the Harlan Community baseball team posted two crooked numbers to take care of Atlantic 10-0 in five innings Monday night (June 26) at Jim Goeser Field. Sears (5-0) struggled with his command at times as he walked six batters and also struck out six, but did not surrender a hit in five innings on the mound.

Fifth-rated Trojan softball team blanks Cyclones

 AUDUBON -- AHSTW senior Anthony Cordes outshined Audubon’s Tyler Riebhoff in a classic pitchers duel Monday night (June 26) as the fifth-seeded Vikings topped the fourth-seeded Wheelers 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Western Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament. Cordes (2-3) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning that was broken up by Micky Williamson’s leadoff single.
