The HCHS Cyclones boys soccer team will be back in action at Merrill Field with a new season kicking off Monday. Senior Spencer Fink said he is looking forward to the season.
“The team is looking great,” Fink said. “We’re out here quite a bit right after we got done with wrestling and basketball. I think we’re going to have a good year. It could be the year we make a run at state.”

The HCHS Cyclones girls golf team hopes to accomplish big things this season with a small roster.
“Some of them are brand new to golf,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “It’ll be a steep learning curve. You got to get out there and swing to have any improvement. We’ll battle a little bit here in March where it’s Iowa weather. It could be 70 degrees at 9 a.m. and then all of a sudden there’s a blizzard at 4 p.m.”

The HCHS Cyclones boys golf team has been taking advantage of the warmer weather, practicing at the Harlan Golf & Country Club preparing for the upcoming season.
“The weather is breaking and getting a little nicer,” said Cyclone Head Coach Chad Swanson. “We’re definitely itching to get going for sure. The courses are starting to green up a little bit.”
Swanson said the team has been getting some holes in.

The HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team competed at the Central College Indoor putting up some strong performances.

The HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team is back on the pitch to prepare for the upcoming season.
“I can’t wait to start the season, and see what this group of girls can do together,” said Junior Emercyn Reischl.
Last year, the team finished 10-8, losing 2-0 in Regional Play. After losing four seniors, Boysen will be looking to other girls for leadership.

As she prepares for her final track season as a Cyclone, HCHS Senior Brylee Schechinger is looking forward to her future. She recently committed to Simpson College.

Harlan - David Robert Plagmann, son of Dale and Trudy (Stewart) Plagmann, was born on February 1, 1989, in Harlan, Iowa. He attended Westridge Elementary and graduated from Harlan Community High School with the Class of 2007. He briefly attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs before returning to Harlan to help on the family farm.David had a natural talent for fixing anything.

Kansas City - Sharon “Shari” Lynn Fleshman was born to David Shaw and Sharon Shepard on July 18, 1961 in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Oak Park High School in Kansas City and attended college at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. While in college, she received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and her Masters in Health Care Administrations.Shari found the love of her life when she met James Fleshman.

Council Bluffs - Alexis Nichole Collins was born on January 13, 1994, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Jacob Collins and Lynnette Hunt. She was raised in Elk Horn, Iowa where she attended school and later graduated in 2012. From a young age, Alexis was full of life and energy. She was outgoing, adventurous, and had a contagious spirit that drew people to her.
