HARLAN -- Anna Nelson and Brogan Kienast, both of Harlan, plan to marry on December 12 at Fresh Encounter Church in Harlan. Anna is the daughter of Corey Nelson, Harlan; and Cara Cacy, Harlan. Brogan is the son of Mike and Connie Kienast, Harlan.
HARLAN -- Volunteers have donated their time to put up the holiday decorations on the downtown courthouse grounds in recent weekends. The display lights up the downtown and can be seen each night through the Christmas season.
HARLAN – Harlan Pharmacy has been selected to serve as a COVID-19 patient self-swab collection site for Harlan, providing no-cost testing for eligible patients. The Health Mart pharmacy is partnering with eTrueNorth, a contractor for the U.S.
COUNTY – Long-term care facilities in Iowa continue to see additional outbreaks of COVID-19, including in Shelby County where the state is reporting Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan and Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn with a combined 127 positive cases, 11 of which have been reported in the last 14 days. In Iowa, 155 long-term care facilities have had outbreaks.
CEDAR FALLS -- It was a season of thrilling big plays on both sides of the ball, impressive comeback wins and approximately 60 young men playing every down of every game for each other. It came to an end on Thursday night at the UNI-Dome, where the Harlan Community football team - playing in the program’s 21st state championship game - lost 30-6 to a talented team from North Scott.

SHELBY -- Dorothy Ruth Andersen, 82, Shelby, died Wednesday, Nov. 25 in Harlan. A private funeral service will be held. Friends may call Friday, Dec. 4 from 2-7 p.m.
HARLAN -- Charles Blum, 85, Harlan, died November 25 at Myrtue Medical Center. Private family graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Panama. Blum is survived by sisters Sr. Joyce Blum of Panama, Alice (Jerry) Zimmerman of Minden and Jeanne (LeRoy) Heese of Defiance. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of arrangements.
