HCHS bowling teams continue winning ways

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community girls and boys bowling teams both improved their records to 4-2 overall last Thursday (Jan. 21) with victories over OA-BCIG at Cyclone Lanes. The Cyclone girls won by 418 pins (2,324 to 1,906), led by Bailey Portwood’s individual series of 362. The Cyclone boys won by 95 pins (2,623 to 2,528), led by Mitchell Leinen’s 380.

Mary Ann Kenkel, 92

    DEFIANCE -- Mary Ann Kenkel, 92, Defiance, died January 30 at her home.    Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance with burial at a later date.  A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be held Friday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the church.  Visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-8 p.m.

Elizabeth Gaul, 89

    HARLAN -- Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Gaul, 89, Harlan, died January 28 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Services will be held Friday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Earling.  A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be held Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-8 p.m.

Weddings - Jana and Tyler Lefeber

    HARLAN -- Jana Wolken and Tyler Lefeber both of Memphis, TN exchanged marriage vows at First United Methodist Church in Harlan on May 9, 2015. The 3 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Darwin Moore.    Parents of the couple are Chuck and Ann Wolken, Harlan; and Dean and Cindy Lefeber, Harlan. 

CAUCUS COUNTDOWN

    COUNTY – Local political chairpersons are excited about caucus night next Monday, and are urging residents to turn out and participate in the process that will ultimately vault presidential hopefuls into frontrunner status.    The countdown to the caucus is on, with only a few days left until the eyes of the nation will be squarely on Iowa.  The Republican and Democratic caucuses will be Monday evening, Feb.
