Wicks’ four goals lead Cyclone girls to first win

OAKLAND (April 16) -- Raegen Wicks scored four goals and freshman Taylor Bieker added a pair Friday night as the Harlan Community girls soccer team rolled past Riverside 8-0 for its first win of the season. Wicks already had a hat trick by the 31st minute of play and the Cyclones led 6-0 at halftime, improving to 1-2 on the year. Samantha Ineson and Darbie Argotsinger also scored goals for HCHS, Kaia Bieker had two assists and Hailey Good had one assist. The Cyclones attempted 40 total shots and 14 shots on goal compared to just three for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 0-3. Wicks was the shot leader with nine (four on goal) while six other Cyclones added four. Goalie Lexi Musich had three saves. HCHS head coach Jared Boysen called the 8-0 win a good confidence builder after the Cyclones lost by that same score one night earlier vs. Glenwood. “We were able to regroup and get the offense going,” he said. “We did a better job of possessing the ball and keeping it on our end, getting multiple scoring opportunities. “Raegen played well and was hard for their defense to contain. Kaia did a great job of looking to pass the ball to her teammates and had two assists. Hailey Good had a great pass to Taylor as well to set her up to score. We had three freshmen - Samantha Ineson, Darbie Argotsinger and Taylor Bieker - who were able to score their first varsity goals.”
