HCHS girls lose another double OT heartbreaker

Riverside’s come-from-behind 3-2 win drops Cyclones to 1-9 overall

HARLAN -- Less than six minutes away from ending a long, frustrating losing streak, the Harlan Community girls soccer team was instead hit by another dose of heartbreak Thursday at Merrill Field.
With HCHS leading 2-1, Riverside sophomore Grace Gleaves nailed a perfectly-struck, game-tying goal with 5:28 left in regulation, then assisted Lindsey White’s sudden-death game-winner with 3:49 left in double overtime as the Lady Dawgs (1-8) beat the Cyclones, 3-2, for their first win of the season.
HCHS, which controlled the ball for much of the last 15 minutes of regulation and both 10-minute overtimes, lost its ninth game in a row to fall to 1-9 overall. The Cyclones have dropped three of those matches by one goal, including two double-OT defeats in a one-week span.
