Cyclones struggle for wins at Waukee dual tourney
WAUKEE -- The Harlan Community wrestling team salvaged a 45-29 win over Chariton in its final dual to finish with a 1-4 record at Saturday’s Al Garrison Memorial Duals in Waukee.
The Cyclones went 0-3 in Pool C before splitting a pair of duals in the consolation round, dropping their overall season record to 5-5 going into the holiday break.
Led by All-Tournament selections Nick Foss and Aaron Johannsen - both 5-0 on the day - HCHS actually finished 28-24 in contested matches but was held back by having at least two open weights in all five duals.
The Cyclones won seven of 12 matches vs. Perry but two forfeits allowed the Bluejays to win 41-36. Later, HCHS won six of 10 matches against Waukee’s B-squad but finished with a 3-1 deficit in forfeits and lost 42-39 when the Warriors took the last three matches on pins.
The Cyclones also lost to Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (42-28) and Des Moines North-Hoover (43-34) before finishing with the win over Chariton.
