Shelby County Speedway celebrates Mother’s day, 116 cars in the pits
HARLAN — Shelby County Speedway packed the pits once again Saturday night as 116 cars filled the fairgrounds for another action-packed evening of racing across six divisions at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.
The feature program rolled through a full night of action in order with the Northern SportMods, Outlaw Mini Mods, Sport Compacts, Late Models, Hobby Stocks and Stock Cars closing the night with one of the best races of the season so far.
The Keast Auto Center Northern SportMods opened the feature events with Jake Newsom driving to victory in the 18-lap main event after starting fourth.
Cody Olsen charged from 10th to finish second while Corey Madden crossed the line third.
Hayden Hillgartner and Tyler Remmereid rounded out the top five in the 19-car field.
Newsom and Madden also claimed SportMod heat race victories earlier in the evening.
The Joe’s Karting Outlaw Mini Mods followed with Lucas Daniels leading all 12 laps from the pole to score the feature victory.
John Schwindt finished second while Chase Daniels completed the podium.
Bobby Daniels and Fynn Heath Preston rounded out the top five.
Daniels also won the Mini Mod heat race.
The Coca Cola Atlantic Bottling Sport Compacts brought another deep field with 20 entries and plenty of movement throughout the feature. Dalton Woodle powered from eighth starting position to capture the win over Camden Nehring and Justin Reed.
David Coenen advanced from 14th to fourth while Levi Volkert completed the top five.
Caine Mahlberg, Michael Gardner and Cody Allbee each picked up heat race victories, while Evan Ewoldt and Josh Deist transferred through the B feature into the main event.
The Sorensen Equipment IMCA Late Models took to the track next and saw Zach Zeitner put together one of the strongest drives of the night.
Starting 10th, Zeitner sliced through traffic to win the 20-lap feature ahead of Aidan Mohr and Allan Hopp.
Sterling Perkins and Cooper Tilley rounded out the top five.
Mohr and Hopp each earned Late Model heat race wins earlier in the evening.
The KNOD Radio Hobby Stocks provided another competitive feature with Zach Hemmingsen charging from 10th to win the 15-lap main event. Kael Koch finished second while Briar Kriegel added a third-place run.
Willy Ransom and Gage Neese completed the top five.
Nathan Mumm and Kriegel earned Hobby Stock heat race victories.
The Murphy Equipment Stock Cars closed out the night and delivered the race of the evening in front of the large Saturday crowd.
Braden Richards overcame an early caution that sent him to the rear of the field before storming back through traffic and making a dramatic last-corner pass on Austin Meiners to steal the win in the 20-lap feature.
Richards charged from 12th starting position for the victory, while Meiners settled for second after leading late.
Miciah Hidlebaugh finished third, Dusty Van Horn rallied from 18th to fourth and Larry Robinson Jr. completed the top five in the stacked 25-car field.
Austin Brands, Mike Albertsen and Dayton Ullrich each picked up Stock Car heat race victories earlier in the night.
Shelby County Speedway is back in action next Saturday night with gates opening at 5.
