Ruth Arlene Busing, 98

October 16, 1925 — August 10, 2024

Ruth Arlene Busing, 98, died on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Azria Health Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley. She was born on October 16, 1925, in Honey Creek, Iowa to Frederick and Helen (Cole) Day. She grew up in Honey Creek and attended country school and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1944. On September 21. 1952, Ruth was united in marriage to the love of her life, Wilber “Bud” Busing at the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Ruth and Bud were blessed with two children, Bruce and Christine. Ruth worked as a bank employee and also in real estate sales with Bud, but most of her life was spent as a farm wife and mother. They lived near Missouri Valley and then on the farm outside of Logan before moving into town in Missouri Valley in 2000.   
     Ruth was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. She was a member of the Missouri Valley Eastern Star, the United Methodist Church Women, the American Legion Auxiliary of which she was the chaplain, Friends of the Library and the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she was president twice, the Red Hat Society and the Tuesday Club. Ruth always had a big garden, she loved the outdoors and all the animals. She would raise fifty chickens each year, while living on the farm. Ruth was Bud’s right hand man on the farm and would always bring meals out to the field. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a 4-H leader and was known for grooming the calves tails for the livestock shows. She enjoyed golfing, vacationing and their winters in Arizona and Florida. Family time was extremely important to Ruth. She loved to cook and bake and especially cherished the times cooking and baking with the grandkids. Baking Christmas cookies with the family was a yearly favorite. Ruth loved seeing and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
     Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Steven Edward; and three brothers, Lester, Lawrence and Glen Day. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Bud Busing of Missouri Valley; children, Bruce Busing and his wife Deb of Logan and Christine and her husband Kirk Petersen of Harlan, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer (Alex) Conrad of Logan, Michael (Mariah) Busing of Missouri Valley, Sara (Mitch) Probst of Logan, Matthew (Carrie) Busing of Logan, Mitchel (Kate) Petersen of Harlan and Amanda (Brandon) Kew of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
     A funeral service was held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Rev. Jason Gutzmer presided over the service. The musicians were Vicki Koenig and Rick Powell. The musical selections were “The Rose” and “Wings of a Dove” and the congregational hymn was “Hymn of Promise”. The pallbearers were Jennifer Conrad, Michael Busing, Sara Probst, Matthew Busing, Mitchel Petersen, and Amanda Kew. Ruth’s final resting place is at the Woodbine Cemetery.
