Kayleen C. (Langenfeld) Johnston

Kaleen Cecelia Johnston was born on August 18, 1954 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ray and Janice Stessman. She was a 1972 graduate of the Harlan Community High School. She then attended the Creighton University School of Nursing, graduating in 1976 and received her Registered Nurse license. She was united in marriage to Paul S. Johnston at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa, on June 5, 1976. She worked full and part-time at the Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. In 1984, she and her family moved to Manassas, Virginia, where she became a full-time Mom.
Kaleen was loving wife and a devoted mother to her six children. She created a home filled with love, laughter and lots of good snacks. As a result, she became a pseudo-mom to many of her children’s friends, providing a safe, fun space for everyone to hang out. She enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events including soccer, baseball, track, cross-country and stock car racing. She volunteered as a school nurse and librarian for the Manassas City Schools; taught Sunday School classes and sang for Masses at All Saints Catholic Church. She loved baking, especially for the neighbors and friends at Christmas time and doing arts and crafts projects.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her father that raised her, Owen Langenfeld. Kaleen is survived by her husband, Paul; two daughters Sarah Barnett (Shane) and Angela Hanger (Keith); four sons: Nicholas (Angela) Johnston, Christopher (Melissa) Johnston, Mark (Lisa) Johnston and Todd (Amy) Johnston; three brothers: Phillip (Julie) Langenfeld; Gene (Nan) Langenfeld and Glen (Mary) Langenfeld. Kaleen also leaves behind 23 grandchildren.
