Clifford John Smith

March 5, 1956 – August 13, 2024

Clifford Smith “Cliff”, age 68, resident of Harlan, Iowa passed away on August 13, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraska. Cliff was born on March 5, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska, to Albert and Velma (Robinson) Smith.
Clifford moved with his parents to Magnolia, Iowa in 1964 and attended Logan-Magnolia Schools until he enlisted in the Army, May of 1976. He was stationed in South Korea in 1978 where he met and married Chong Su Yi, in Seoul, Korea in 1979. They returned to the US where they were blessed with two sons, Brian and James. Cliff’s last unit was HHB-4th Battalion 56ADA USATC out of El Paso, Texas where he was discharged in November 1987.
Cliff return to Iowa with his two sons where he raised them in Harlan, Iowa. Cliff and his sons welcomed a family that became a very important part of their lives, he nurtured the new family as his own. Cliff was always there when they needed him the most and they loved him for all the love and patience he showed. Cliff had such a pure heart, he was always willing to help his friends, family, and acquaintances.
We want to honor his wonderful friendship with Jaxon, after Jaxon’s Cancer diagnosis they became best buddies and regular Tuesday night movie goers.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Velma (Robinson) Smith; brother’s, David, Ronald (Sam), and Douglas (Doug) Smith.
Survivors include sister, Donna Stueve of Missouri Valley, Iowa; two sons, Brian (Celia) Smith of Papillion, Nebraska, and James (Shelby) Smith of Shelby, Iowa.
Grandchildren, Kianni, Leilani, Kailani Smith of Papillion, Nebraska, and Aubree Smith of Shelby, Iowa.
Step children, Sherona Mahoney of Woodbine, Iowa, Devin (Trent) Rold of Harlan, Iowa, Bridget (Greg) Nore of Woodbine, Iowa, and Shawn (Tasha) Mahoney of Defiance, Iowa.
Step grandchildren, Isaiah (Imagen) Gaer of Fort Riley, Kansas, Jaxon, Journey Rold of Harlan, Iowa, Trey Burgmeyer, Kelton, Jamey Conard of Woodbine, Iowa, and Micah Mahoney of Defiance, Iowa.
Also preceded in death - his cat Oscar and granddog Sophie.
He will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
