Muenchrath receives 2020 Student Athlete Achievement Award from IBA

 HARLAN -- Wes Muenchrath of Harlan Community was one of six Iowa high school senior football players to receive a 2020 Iowa Bankers Association Student Athlete Achievement Award during the state football championship games held Nov. 19-20 in Cedar Falls. One student from each class was presented with a $1,000 scholarship from the IBA to the college of his choice. This year’s recipients were as follows. Eight-Player: Dillon Welter, Don Bosco; Class A: Justin Horgen, Saint Ansgar; Class 1A: Carson Lambert, Southeast Valley; Class 2A: Chancellor Thrasher, West Liberty; Class 3A: Wes Muenchrath, Harlan Community; Class 4A: Jackson Langin, Dowling Catholic. Scholarship recipients are selected each year based on their academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement. Muenchrath was a backup tight end for this year’s 3A state runner-up Cyclones, catching three passes for 32 yards during the playoff run. He also recovered three onside/squib kicks on special teams throughout the year. “These student leaders show dedication not only to their teams, but to their communities as well.
