HCMS girls track and field shines at Hawkeye 10 conference meet

COUNCIL BLUFFS-The Harlan Community Middle School girls teams competed at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Meet with the 7th grade Cyclones bringing home the conference championship while the 8th grade squad battled through a deep field and produced several strong performances.
The HCMS 7th grade girls claimed the Hawkeye 10 Conference title with 134 points, narrowly edging Lewis Central by 1.5 points in one of the closest team races of the meet. Atlantic finished third with 109 points.
The Cyclones used strong performances in the field events, hurdles, and relays to secure the championship.
Kamryn Scheve led the way with a conference title in the long jump after clearing 14-00.50 while also taking third in the 800-meter run. 
Alivia Eckles added another championship in the high jump by clearing 4-06 and contributed in multiple relays.
Skyler McDowell dominated the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 75-10 and placing second in the shot put. 
Paige Fuhs also had a standout day, winning the 100-meter hurdles and taking second in the 200-meter hurdles.
The HCMS relay teams played a major role in the team championship. 
The 800 sprint medley relay team of Pyper Montgomery, Emma Catron, Makenzie Schneider, and Scheve captured the conference title in 2:07.27. 
The Cyclones also won the 1600 distance medley relay behind Yana Sanduk, Brylee Knapp, Schneider, and Scheve.
Additional scoring performances came from Makenzie Schneider placing second in the high jump and fourth in the 400-meter dash, Leah Svendsen taking sixth in the 100 hurdles, and multiple relay teams finishing inside the top four.
The HCMS 8th grade girls finished 10th overall with 24 team points in a competitive field led by Glenwood.
The Cyclones were paced by strong relay performances throughout the evening. 
The Cyclones top finish came in the 800 sprint medley relay where Kenadi Dunn, Kinley Eck, Brynlee Schumacher, and Nora Belcher placed second in 2:04.38.
The 4x400 relay team of Breckyn Manz, Georgia Hudson, Schumacher, and Belcher added a fourth-place finish while the distance medley relay team of Addison Ahrenholtz, Eck, Schumacher, and Manz placed fifth.
Individually, Georgia Hudson finished seventh in the 1500-meter run and Kinley Eck added a seventh-place finish in the long jump.
Kenadi Dunn led the sprint group in the 100-meter dash while Addison Ahrenholtz placed ninth in the 200-meter dash.
Both the 7th and 8th grade girls teams have been steady forces in all of their meet this season and capped it off with a strong showing at the Hawkeye 10 Conference meet to finish out their seasons.
