HCHS boys, Fillie girls bowl to victory

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community bowling teams opened the season with a split decision against Shenandoah Monday at Cyclone Lanes, the boys winning by 138 pins and the girls falling just eight pins short. The HCHS boys built a 151-pin lead after the individual round and came out about even in the Baker Games to win 2,443 to 2,305. Four Cyclones finished with a two-game series of at least 325, led by Lucas Schmitz’s 365 and Mitchell Leinen’s 349. Leinen (214) and Schmitz (206) both rolled a 200 game. Jeremiah Dawson led the Mustangs with a 364 but only one teammate was able to surpass 300. The HCHS girls, meanwhile, made up 50 pins during the Baker Games but couldn’t overcome a 58-pin deficit from the individual round and lost 1,940 to 1,932. The Cyclones actually rallied into the lead following a 200-103 fourth round of Baker Games but only scored a 101 in the final round.
