David Plagmann

Harlan - David Robert Plagmann, son of Dale and Trudy (Stewart) Plagmann, was born on February 1, 1989, in Harlan, Iowa. He attended Westridge Elementary and graduated from Harlan Community High School with the Class of 2007. He briefly attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs before returning to Harlan to help on the family farm.David had a natural talent for fixing anything. Whether it was farm equipment, machinery at work, or something a friend needed repaired, he could take it apart, figure out the problem, and make it work again. He wasn’t one to read manuals-he learned by doing. This skill made him an invaluable part of the family farm and a trusted team member at Essentia in Harlan, where he started working in 2012 after a stint at Menards Distribution Center in Shelby. If something broke, everyone knew David was the one to call.In 2017,  David married Kelli Hatcher at Corley Hall in Corley, Iowa, and together they welcomed their daughter, Kenleigh. Though they later divorced, David remained a devoted father. In August 2022, he welcomed his son, Dominic, whom he cherished deeply. Being a dad was one of his greatest joys.David enjoyed fishing and grilling out, especially when surrounded by friends and family. He hosted weekly barbecues where his buddies and their kids would gather, filling his home with laughter and good food. He had a soft spot for all the kids, treating them like his own and making sure they always had a good time.He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and recently took a trip to the Black Hills. On nice days, he loved riding his bike to work.David passed away in Harlan, Iowa, on March 6, 2025, at the age of 36 years, one month, and five days. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Orrin and Irma Plagmann and Eugene and Charlotte Stewart.He is survived by his children, Kenleigh Plagmann of Avoca, Iowa, and Dominic Plagmann of Harlan, Iowa; his parents, Dale and Trudy Plagmann of Harlan, Iowa; his sisters, Jane Plagmann (Caleb Rowland) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Denise Plagmann of Omaha, Nebraska; his nieces, Finley and Dani Rowland of Lincoln, Nebraska; his uncle, Dean Plagmann of Elk Horn, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and countless friends.An 11:00 AM Funeral Service was officiated by Rev. Jeff Erlemeier on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Faith Family Church in Harlan, Iowa. Joe Schwarte, Mardy Anderson, Jorge Esquivel, Evan Dille, Tyler Stahl, Jake Von Glan, Trever Herman, and Nelson Guyer served as casket bearers. A burial was held following the service at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
