HARLAN — The City of Harlan has announced the hiring of Chad Kroger as the new Harlan Fire Chief. Kroger officially assumed the position Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
As fire chief, Kroger will lead the Harlan Fire Department and oversee fire protection services, emergency response operations and ongoing efforts to protect the lives and property of Harlan residents.
City Administrator Gervas Mgonja expressed enthusiasm about Kroger’s appointment and the future of the department.
“I am excited for Chad as he steps into this important leadership role, and I am equally excited for the entire Harlan Fire Department,” Mgonja said. “Our firefighters play a vital role in keeping our community safe, and strong leadership is essential to continuing that mission. I look forward to seeing Chad work alongside the department, strengthen teamwork, support our firefighters, and build on the department’s commitment to serving the Harlan community.”
To introduce Kroger to the community, the City of Harlan will host a meet-and-greet Monday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at Harlan City Hall, 711 Durant St.
“This meet-and-greet is an opportunity for our community members and city staff to meet Chief Kroger, welcome him to Harlan, and show their support as he begins this important role,” Mgonja said.
The event is open to the public, and all community members are encouraged to attend.
The City of Harlan looks forward to working with Kroger as he leads the fire department and continues its commitment to public safety and service to the community.
