Community Reporter
Small community newspaper in rural Iowa seeks a reporter/photographer to cover local government, schools, events, and people features. The real job is getting to know the community—listening more than talking, earning trust, and telling stories that matter locally. Small-town modesty required; curiosity encouraged.
Coverage area includes Harlan (Shelby County), and surrounding communities. Position is based out of Harlan office with some flexibility.
Non-negotiables: accuracy, curiosity, spelling names correctly, and willingness to get out of the office and meet people. Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation required.
Journalism experience and photography skills preferred. AP Style knowledge a plus. Some design experience helpful.
