Denison-Schleswig 9, HCHS 2 DENISON -- Denison-Schleswig used a three-run first and a four-run fifth to down Harlan Community 9-2 Monday night (June 19) and complete a regular-season softball sweep. Anna Ahrenholtz and Molly Gubbels both doubled and singled to lead HCHS, with Ahrenholtz scoring one run and driving in another. Kaylie Briggs, Madison Parman, Emily Brouse and Madison Schumacher all added singles. Morgan Schaben took the loss, allowing two hits and three runs (one earned) in two and two-thirds innings. She walked four and struck out six. Brouse surrendered four hits and six runs (four earned) over the final three and a third.
IKM-Manning 8, Griswold 3 IRWIN -- The IKM-Manning softball team improved to 16-4 overall Monday night (June 19) with an 8-3 home win over Griswold. The game was tied 3-3 when the Wolves scored five sixth-inning runs to pull away. Peyton Gross pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing nine hits and three earned runs. She walked just one while recording 10 strikeouts. Offensive leaders for the Wolves included Paige Gaskill and Payton Sporrer with two hits each, one of Sporrer’s hits being a double. Gaskill scored two runs and Gross had one double and two RBI. Zoey Melton, Grace Youngren and Lexi Branning all added singles.
Exira-EHK 11, Woodbine 1 (6) KIMBALLTON -- Maggie Rasmussen pitched a three-hit complete game and Sophia Peppers cracked her fourth home run of the year on Wednesday (June 21) as Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton extended its winning streak to eight games with an 11-1, six-inning win over Woodbine. The Spartans improved to 10-8 overall by scoring at least three runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Exira-EHK’s 11-hit attack included four doubles, one triple and Peppers’ home run. Peppers (1 double, 1 homer), Katie Kunik (1 double) and Rasmussen (1 double) had two hits each for the Spartans, with Peppers notching four RBI. Alex Petersen added a double and two RBI while Grace Greving had a triple. Rachel Walker (1 hit), Peppers and Kami Waymire each scored two runs and Walker added two RBI.
